Transgender, Gender-Expansive & Intersex Health Week
Cities across the San Gabriel Valley center education and awareness
EL MONTE, CALIFORNIA–The San Gabriel Valley LGBTQ Center partnered with the Women's Foundation California Dr. Maria Beatriz Solis Policy Institute to advance five city proclamations, declaring November 16th to November 22nd as TGI Health Week, recognizing the intricate connection between TGI people, healthcare access, and the need for local city governments to protect it.
The inaugural TGI Healthcare Week proclamations, in the cities of El Monte, La Puente, Monterey Park, Pasadena and Baldwin Park, highlight the critical need to maintain a healthy, safe and diverse community for all residents, by recognizing the dignity & importance of TGI residents to be cared for and protected across the San Gabriel Valley.
Supporting the preservation of civil rights and protecting TGI communities at a local level is critical to maintaining a healthy, safe & diverse community for the estimated 120,000 Trans & Queer (LGBTQIA2S+) people in the SGV. The five cities encourage community support of TGI healthcare and to uplift undeserved and marginalized members of TGI communities.
Healthcare access is life-saving in a world that wishes to vilify and erase TGI communities, given anti-LGBTQIA2S+ rising opposition at school boards, city council meetings, and other community spaces in the SGV.
